Spirit of Yoga - Yoga Under the Snow Moon
Share
The Snow Moon, February's full moon, will reach its peak illumination on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 1:53pm GMT, bringing a unique opportunity for us all to harness its powerful energy for personal growth and transformation. This full moon, known for its connection with winter and the heavy falls of snow for those of us in the northern hemisphere, offers a perfect backdrop for a yoga practice focused on releasing what no longer serves us and embracing new beginnings.
The Snow Moon's energy is ideal for self-reflection and renewal, illuminating areas of our lives that may need attention or change. Whether it's an old habit, an old belief or self-limiting thought, this is the time to let it go.
Here's some ideas to consider for a powerful snow moon yoga session:-
- Intention setting: Focus on what you wish to release, and through the process of letting go, consider the space you then create to cultivate new things in your life.
- Light a candle: Honour the snow moon with a candle that has clearing or cleansing scent such as sage, rosemary, frankincense or palo santo.
- Extend your poses: Incorporate grounding postures like Warrior flows or simple balances to connect with your inner strength and stability and hold them a breath or two longer than usual.
- Heart-opening asanas: Camel or Bridge pose can help open the heart, allowing for emotional release and the expression of self-love. Alternatively, dive straight into chavasana, grounding your body to the earth and opening your heart to the sky.
- Meditation and pranayama: Include breathing exercises and meditation to quiet the mind and tune into your intuition, which is heightened during the full moon.
- Journaling: End your practice with a reflective journaling session, exploring questions about personal growth and transformation.
Aligning our yoga practice with the Snow Moon's energy is a powerful opportunity for personal evolution. Just as winter gives way to spring, we too can emerge from challenging times renewed and revitalised.
In planning your session, please note that at the time of the snow moon's peak, the moon will be below the horizon, making it invisible to all those in the UK. However, the moon will rise in the east around sunset and reach its highest point in the sky around midnight. So 2pm is the best time for your practice, with the Snow Moon visible in the sky on the night of February 12 from sunset until the early hours of February 13.
Happy snow moon.
